Why am I not being recommended, even if I’m a great specialist?

What prevents word of mouth from working for you
What’s stopping word of mouth from working in your favor
You do great work… but there are no recommendations :-(
You work with integrity. You do more than expected. You meet deadlines. But recommendations are rare. Why?
The answer lies in simple but often overlooked mistakes.
If it’s hard to describe, nothing flows — and no recommendations are given
First, you’re hard to describe. If someone can’t explain in 10–15 seconds what you’re useful for, they won’t risk their reputation. Unclear positioning is like “something vague.” That’s why you’re not being recommended.
Silence isn’t always golden.
Second, you stay silent. Connections don’t work without reminders. People simply forget you exist — especially if you don’t show up, don’t create reasons to be remembered, don’t reach out. Silence is the main enemy of recommendations.
Is there a trigger? There should be.
Third, there is no recall trigger. You haven’t left a clear image or a memorable case in someone’s mind. Nothing comes up like: “Oh right, that’s the one who helps close deals with banks,” or “That’s the one who can quickly launch a brand in new regions.” Everything is blurred.
So what should you do?
Craft one sentence about yourself — so simple that anyone can repeat it.
Stay visible. Once a month — a short update, a story, something useful.
Leave a trace. A case, an image, a comparison, a story. People remember stories, not facts.
You may be great. But if you’re invisible, no one passes you along.
