How running apps and language platforms are turning into spaces for connections and networking. A story inspired by an article in Forbes Russia and my approach to “Networking 2.0” based on shared interests.

Interest-based networking: from a run to meaningful relationships

Story from a Forbes Russia article

Recently, Forbes Russia published an article by Irina Kha about how people find partners on Duolingo, Strava and other seemingly “non-dating” services. It includes a story about a friend of mine: he was into running, took part in online challenges on Strava, and met his future wife through shared routes and likes on his runs. Today they have two children.

For me, this is a perfect example of what I call Networking 2.0, which is built on mobile networking: first come a shared practice and shared interest, then regular touchpoints in the digital space, and only after that—in‑person meetings and relationships.

Any meaningful interest-based platforms—from a running app to a book club—become a space both for networking and for personal life. What matters is not just the place, but the recurring context and the willingness to see people in it, not just a service.
